Barranquilla Superport Project - COLOMBIA

  • 'Superpuerto', a large multi-cargo port and industrial park, being developed at the mouth of the Magdalena River, will provide the first all-weather, deep water berth in Barranquilla, Colombia.
  • Colombia is the fifth largest coal exporter in the world with 7,300 million short tons of recoverable coal reserves.
  • The Project will utilize the lower cost of river transportation to bring coal from mines by barge and transship it to vessels for export to the United States and Europe.
  • Throughput of the Port at start-up is targeted at 8.5 million tons per year (MTPY) of a mixture of steam and metallurgical coal and is proposed to grow to as much as 25 MTPY.
  • Future expansion phases will include growth into other cargos, including break-bulk, liquid bulk, and containers, where the throughput for the container terminal is projected to be as high as 260,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per year.
